Nikolina Ivanova is the founder and instructor of Glam Sophisticated Makeup Academy, where she assists aspiring makeup artists in transforming their love for makeup into a successful career, enabling them to apply makeup confidently and professionally on clients. In 2013, Nikolina migrated from Eastern Europe to Las Vegas as an immigrant. Despite starting her career in the hospitality industry and holding a corporate job in Macy’s, Nikolina’s entrepreneurial drive led her to establish her own business within just two years. She began her education in cosmetology school with an interest in esthetics but discovered her true passion for makeup. After booking her first clients, Nikolina’s freelance makeup business took off, leading to the establishment of her successful enterprise.
In addition to her success in building a thriving makeup business, Nikolina has received recognition for her skills in the field. She was voted as one of the Top 30 Makeup Artists in Las Vegas for two consecutive years, a testament to her talent and dedication. Nikolina’s expertise in the industry led her to create the Freelance Makeup Blueprint in 2019, a comprehensive guide that she now teaches her students. This blueprint equips aspiring makeup artists with the necessary knowledge and skills to launch a successful freelance makeup business, further solidifying Nikolina’s commitment to helping others pursue their passion in the field.
Who are your female role models and why?
My female role models are all women who have their own businesses, who hustle, make money while impacting the world in their own unique way. Also, moms. After becoming a mom, I realized how amazing we women are and what we are able to accomplish. My biggest role model is my mom.
What advice would you give to women starting out in your industry?
Advice I would give to women starting a business – just start. It will never be perfect, it will always paralyze you if you strive for perfection in every step of the process, so instead, strive for progress.
The theme this year is #EmbraceEquity. What are some of the opportunities and resources you’d like to see in your industry? And in the world today?
I would like to see more opportunities for women in business when it comes to funding, because, for me, as a women immigrant, chances to get funded to help support my business when I was starting were very low, and I would like for women to get better opportunities to start their small business, I believe that would help many more give entrepreneurship a chance.
